AIRSHIP 27 PRODUCTIONS PRESENTS BASS REEVES – FRONTIER MARSHAL VOL 3

Airship 27 Productions is thrilled to announce the release of the third volume in their western anthology series starring the greatest western lawman of all times; Bass Reeves.

In all the annals of frontier history, there was no lawman as skilled or tireless in meting out justice then former runaway slave, Bass Reeves. Having lived with the Five Civilized Tribes during the Civil War years, Reeves was taught tracking and hunting by the natives of this rugged land.  After marrying and starting a horse ranch, he soon realized raising a large family (he would have ten children) was expensive. Thus when offered to pin on the U.S. Deputy Marshal’s badge, Reeves accepted for two practical reasons; his own respect for the law and the fact that Marshal’s got to keep whatever bounty was posted on the outlaws they hunted.

“The first two books in this series are still hot sellers,” reports Airship 27 Productions’ Managing Editor, Ron Fortier. “Interest in Bass Reeves continues to grow and it is our plan to release a new volume every year.” Fortier also noted that there have been rumblings from Hollywood on several possible Bass Reeves projects. “It is only a matter of time before someone out there realizes how important such a film or series could be. But while they waffle, we’ll continue to put out Bass Reeves books.”  Airship 27 Productions’ award-winning Art Director, Rob Davis, provided both the cover and interior illustrations.

In this volume, writers R.A. Jones, Terry Alexander and Mel Odom put the legendary Marshal to the test in three brand new adventures. From facing an old deadly foe, hunting a killer in Indian country and going after a preacher who believes himself to be God’s own avenging angel. This is the Wild West at the wildest, challenging the one man who could not be beaten, Marshal Bass Reeves.

[Link] Why Writers Face Their Deepest Fears

by M. B. Weston

I’m sitting in front of my computer with shivers literally traveling down my arms. I can’t imagine how my poor character is feeling… Except my character is a Navy Seal. Named Tom… [Cue the excitement from the Elysian Chronicles fans…] He might not get as scared as me, but I guarantee you he’s not happy I’ve written him into this situation…

Writers know that creating tension in a story is vital. It means we put our characters in tough situations that we might not necessarily want to write about. It means manipulating our reader’s emotions. Your characters might need to experience sadness or terror in order to make the story better, even if you as the author don’t want to go there.

Unfortunately, we authors often have to experience the same emotions our characters experience. This especially includes me. I’m a “method writer.” Like a method actor, I have to put myself into the character’s head. I have to “be there.” That’s why I can’t just write an outline and have it work. I have to create more of a pre-draft because I literally have to go into the story and hear, see, and feel what my character feels.

So when Tom is scuba diving off the coast of Norway and has to go into an uncharted cave, I’m there with him. When he has to make a decision when the cave forks, knowing that his air is dwindling, I’m living it. And when a sea monster comes at him…

Yeah. I’m the one who has to endure the surprising sight of teeth and scales while squirming backward in a tiny sea cave trying to remember which way to go to escape and hoping the cave doesn’t become my tomb…

AIRSHIP 27 PRODUCTIONS PRESENTS AVIATION ACES VOL. 1

Since the advent of air combat over Europe during World War One, aviation would become an integral part of shaping the military future of all nations. Thus were born skilled men and women whose love of flying and unerring survival skills would label them as Aviation Aces.

From the 1920s forward, American pulp publishers gave their readers countless new monthly magazines featuring these amazing fliers from Bucky Barnes to Dusty Ayers and so many more. The stories were filled with high flying heroes willing to challenge the dangers of soaring above the world.

Now Airship 27 Productions is thrilled to take to the wild blue with four brand-new, pulse-pounding, cloud-climbing adventures.  From a hidden Japanese base in the South China Sea, to the search for a missing scientist and a top-secret mission in a “rubber” plane, these stories soar boldly into the killer skies. Join writers Gene Moyers, Jeff Fournier, Andy Fix, Robert Ricci and Fred Adams Jr. as they fly straight into thrilling pulp action.

New Zealander Shane Evans provides the cover while Howard Simpson the twelve black and white illustrations, all under the guidance of Award Winning Art Director Rob Davis. “Aviation pulps were a staple of the 30s and 40s,” adds Airship 27 Productions Managing Editor Ron Fortier. “We’re excited to be offering up a new title to add to those old-time classics. We think our readers are really going to enjoy Aviation Aces in a big way.”

AIRSHIP 27 TO ADD PROF. CHALLENGER

It is no secret that Airship 27 Production’s best-selling books for the past six years have been their volumes in the “Sherlock Holmes – Consulting Detective” series. Now twelve volumes rich, they continue to sell and are constantly on Amazon’s top mystery anthology list year after year. To their thousands of loyal readers, reason for this continued success is no secret. All Airship 27 Production’s “Consulting Detective” books are done strictly in the tradition of Holmes & Watson’s creator, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Now this leading New Pulp publisher is hoping this formula will work a second time as they prepare to launch a brand-new anthology based once again on a Conan Doyle character; Prof. George Edward Challenger.

“After Holmes, Challenger is clearly Doyle’s most popular creation,” says Airship 27 Production’s Managing Editor Ron Fortier. “Which is why when our pal, and fellow writer, Gordon Dymowski approached us about doing a series featuring George Challenger, we were eager to hear what he had in mind.”  Dymowski, a popular Chicago writer and blogger, is also known as an enthusiastic Doctor Who fan and can be found at most Who related events in the Windy City.

“Gordon not only suggested the concept,” continued Fortier, “but actually went the extra step by writing up a Prof. Challenger bible.”  A bible is the name given to character data documents with which editors use to introduce perspective writers to a series. “Our hope is to elicit interest from established New Pulp writers in our community. Anyone interested in submitting should contact me and I’ll happily send them a copy of the bible.” Fortier ends with stating this is not a project for new amateur writers and Airship 27 will only look at those inquiries send in from known, published writers.

Will lightning strike twice?  Time will tell, while Fortier and Dymowski certainly have their fingers crossed.

PRINCESSES GET PULPY! NEW SUBMISSIONS CALL OPEN FROM PRO SE PRODUCTIONS

Known for innovative ideas, Pro Se Productions, a Publisher of Genre Fiction and New Pulp, also often takes inspiration from other sources. The work of an artist shared on social media proved to lead to such a moment as Pro Se announces open submission calls for ‘PRINCESSES OF PULP’, a new anthology slated for release in 2019-20.

“It’s amazing,” says Pro Se Productions Editor in Chief Tommy Hancock, “when someone’s work not only makes me go ‘Wow, that’s awesome’, but also leads to an idea. That happened today when the work of artist Astor Alexander made its rounds on social media. Taking his cue from Disney movies, Alexander created several images featuring Disney’s version of fairy tale princesses as Noir characters. This simply blew me away and gave a new spark to an old general idea that Pro Se has played with before- taking folklore, fairy tales, myths, and other such stories and having writers do a Pulpy take on them. So, to follow up Pro Se’s ONCE UPON A SIXGUN, TALL PULP, and PULPOLOGY, we are now taking submissions for PRINCESSES OF PULP, giving writers the opportunity to reimagine either well known Fairy Tale princesses or even little known female leads in such stories into explorers, shadowy avengers, nearly superhuman team leaders, or any other Pulpy type character they might fit.”

Proposals for PRINCESSES OF PULP must be 1-3 paragraphs long and completely outline an overall synopsis, from beginning to end, of the proposed story. These stories are to be retellings of fairy tales from any country, popular or obscure, that originally featured female leads, either princesses or simply women, and must feature those same characters in the retelling. The retelling can be any genre considered Pulp, which would include westerns, detective mysteries, weird tales, science fiction, fantasy, romance, and more. Pro Se staff will determine if the concept is ‘pulpy’ enough for acceptance.

Proposals are to be sent to submissions@prose-press.com.

Stories must be 8-10,000 words in length. Writers who have not submitted to Pro Se before must submit a four-page writing sample with their proposal. Proposals will be accepted until November 10th or until all available slots are filled. Completed stories will be due by February 10th, 2019.

For more information on this submissions call, contact Hancock at editorinchief@prose-press.com.

FRANK SCHILDINER’S TAKE ON CLASSIC PULP RETURNS! ‘THE NEW ADVENTURES OF THUNDER JIM WADE VOLUME THREE’ DEBUTS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

A Hero from the Past Thunders to life once More! Pro Se Productions proudly presents the latest volume in its PULP OBSCURA series-THE NEW ADVENTURES OF THUNDER JIM WADE VOLUME THREE: TOMB OF ANCIENT EVIL by Frank Schildiner!

“Thunder Jim Wade,” says Tommy Hancock, Editor in Chief of Pro Se Productions, “was a character created to basically ride the coattails of the success of Doc Savage. His effectiveness was hampered by some writing issues as well as packaging in terms of pulp covers. What Thunder Jim Wade does have, however, was more than enough for Frank Schildiner to take and mold into a timeless hero ready to take on eternal evils like no other Pulp hero ever. Frank’s third Thunder Jim Wade novel takes Jim and his companions even further into the edges of action and adventure and, as usual, this book delivers a two-fisted explosive punch!”

Even as men like Jim Wade and his companions furiously push the world forward, long forgotten malevolence once feared and worshipped by humans still lurks, hidden away in antiquity! Thunder Jim discovers that the world’s past can truly come back to haunt…and destroy when he discovers what lies in the TOMB OF ANCIENT EVIL From Pulp Obscura and Pro Se Productions!

THE NEW ADVENTURES OF THUNDER JIM WADE VOLUME THREE features a stunning cover by Mikey Fyles and logo design and print formatting by Sean Ali and is available in print at https://www.amazon.com/New-Adventures-Thunder-Wade-Three/dp/1728674638/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1540952947&sr=8-1&keywords=thunder+jim+wade+volume+three&fbclid=IwAR3u91CPG31kCdQtvbUbcZZIvZCGGjXy2eyOqmGFEh8MpZYDWJOXWBzl0mw and on Pro Se’s own store at www.prose-press.com/store for $6.99.

AIRSHIP 27 PRODUCTIONS PRESENTS SUN KOH : HEIR TO ATLANTIS

Airship 27 Productions answers the question, “Who is Sun Koh?”

During the 1930s German pulp writer Paul Muller wrote a series of adventures featuring his hero, Sun Koh: Heir of Atlantis. From the very start he was intended to an Aryan version of America’s Doc Savage. Like Savage he was larger than life and accompanying him on his adventurers was a group of loyal, unique individuals. Whereas Doc Savage was a man of science and his companions all experts in various technical fields, Sun-Koh’s stories were slanted towards mythology and mysticism. He was supposedly a time-traveler from the sunken continent of Atlantis, a member of the royal family and master of arcane abilities. Although there were plenty of super scientific gizmos in his adventures, it was the magic that took center stage. His aides were magicians, immortals and religious Hindu assassins. Quite an eclectic mix.

In 2010, in the midst of the New Pulp explosion, Dr. Art Sippo wrote a brand-new adventure novel featuring these characters. “Sun-Koh: Heir of Atlantis.” It premiered to rousing acclaim by pulp fans and a sequel was planned. Sadly that second book never materialized and eight years later, the first book is out of print. Now Airship 27 Productions is about to rectify all that. Ron Fortier, Airship 27 Productions’ Managing Editor, entered into an agreement with Dr. Sippo to reprint “Sun-Koh: Heir to Atlantis.”

“We couldn’t be happier,” Fortier reported after getting Dr. Sippo’s green light. “Whatever one’s thoughts on this German-based character, he clearly has a place in the history of pulps and Art has written a whopping great book that demands to stay in print and we at Airship 27 are going to see it does.”

Now Dr. Art Sippo’s controversial New Pulp offering returns in this newly expanded Airship 27 edition with an introduction by Pulp Factory Award winner writer, Andrew Salmon and interior illustrations by Art Director Rob Davis and a stunning cover by Adam Shaw. The book also contains a Bonus Back-Up feature spotlighting Sun Koh’s amazing crew.

PUBLISHER RELEASES FIRST CHILDREN’S BOOK- ‘FUNNY ZOMBIE’ CREATED BY TWELVE YEAR OLD DEBUTS!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Pro Se Productions, a publisher of Genre Fiction and New Pulp, proudly announces its first foray into books aimed at a very special audience-children under the age of 8.  As a part of Pro Se’s YOUNGPULP! imprint, FUNNY ZOMBIE by Kailee Hancock and illustrated by Jo Sumrall is now available in print and digital formats.

“Children’s books,” says Tommy Hancock, Editor in Chief of Pro Se Productions, “and I mean those that are aimed at small children, are something that Pro Se has looked at for a while. Other companies have made that leap and we’ve considered it, but have waited on an idea that would fit what we do perfectly, be different enough to be a Pro Se book and still be enjoyed by kids.  And it just so happens my own daughter, Kailee, had that very idea when she was five years old. It has taken seven years to get FUNNY ZOMBIE turned into images and text that could be made into a book, but we are finally here and I am so proud of Kailee and the work Jo Sumrall has put into this volume as well. Kailee, at her present age of twelve, did a rewrite of the book as she originally wrote it at age five, and it’s now time for the world at large to meet the most unique and diverse bunch of friends in any book ever. FUNNY ZOMBIE is a small child’s view of the world through the eyes of beings that we normally see as scary, but really can be just like us as well.”

FUNNY ZOMBIE is a book for small children written by Kailee Hancock. Now twelve years old, Kailee first created Funny Zombie when she was five. Now this unique character and his entire host of spooky and humorous friends star in their own children's book. From Vampire Vance to Smiley the Ghost to Funny himself, the crew of characters in this book show kids and adults how to be friends with all kinds of people and how to simply be yourself and enjoy life as you! Whimsically illustrated by Jo Sumrall, FUNNY ZOMBIE is definitely a children's book like no other and will be a hit with kids of all ages.

FUNNY ZOMBIE features a hauntingly cute cover and matching interiors by Jo Sumrall and logo design and print formatting by Antonino Lo Iacono and Marzia Marina and is available in print for $10.99 at https://www.amazon.com/dp/1728960959?keywords=funny+zombie+hancock&qid=1540679858&sr=8-2-fkmrnull&ref=sr_1_fkmrnull_2 and on Pro Se’s own store at www.prose-press.com/store.

The first Pro Se children’s book is also available as an eBook for the Kindle at https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JQLB56M?keywords=funny+zombie+hancock&qid=1540679858&sr=8-1-fkmrnull&ref=sr_1_fkmrnull_1for only $3.99. The book is also available to Kindle Unlimited members for free.

AIRSHIP 27 PRODUCTIONS COLLECTS JEZEBEL JOHNSTON SERIES IN BIRTH OF A BUCCANEER

Several years ago, popular New Pulp writer Nancy Hansen created a pirate series based on the life and exploits of a Caribbean Island girl named Jezebel Johnston; the daughter of a bordello madam and a British freebooter.  At the age of 14, longing for a life of seafaring adventure, Jezebel disguises herself as a boy and signs on to a pirate ship.

All that is told in the first book, “Devil’s Handmaid.” Hansen continued the girl’s story in three subsequent sequels, “Queen of Anarchy,” “Sea Witch” and “Mourning Star.” Now Airship 27 Productions has collected all four in one omnibus volume, “Birth of a Buccaneer.”

“It was time for this collection,” says Airship 27 Production’s Managing Editor Ron Fortier. “All too often we’d be at a pulp convention and people would come to our table only to learn certain volumes were sold out, or new readers couldn’t find the first book. After some discussion with Nancy, all of us agreed the saga had in fact reached a critical point and was about to move on to an entire new phase in Jezebel’s life. Ergo this was the best point to do a collection.”

Colorado based artist Kevin A. Johnson signed on to do the cover and Art Director and book designer Rob Davis assembled all four volumes to include all his previous interior illustrations, for a grand total of 36. “After Legends of New Pulp Fiction, this is the biggest book we’ve ever released, at 638 pages,” Fortier adds. “We’re sure Nancy’s fans are going to be thrilled with it while we look forward to her fifth novel in this amazing on-going saga.”

RIP: Stan Lee Is Dead at 95; Superhero of Marvel Comics

"Under Mr. Lee, Marvel transformed the comic book world by imbuing its characters with the self-doubts and neuroses of average people, as well an awareness of trends and social causes and, often, a sense of humor.

"In humanizing his heroes, giving them character flaws and insecurities that belied their supernatural strengths, Mr. Lee tried “to make them real flesh-and-blood characters with personality,” he told The Washington Post in 1992.

“That’s what any story should have, but comics didn’t have until that point,” he said. “They were all cardboard figures.”
